bio brief
Dale White is the founder and owner of White Lightning Racing and director/team manager for Petersen Motorsports. Prior to starting White Lightning Racing in 1985, White was an engineer and program manager for Fortune 150 company, EG&G Energy Measurements. During his 13 year career with EG&G, White was responsible for developing processes and managing personnel for multi-million dollar military and civilian contracts and is a former member of the Nuclear Emergency Search Team (NEST). White joined Las Vegas-businessman Michael Petersen in 1989 and went on to dominate off-road competition until moving to road racing fulltime in 1999. Over that ten year span, the team scored over 50 victories- including four consecutive Baja 1000 and Baja 500 class and three overall victories- 80 podium finishes and a number of SODA, SCORE and SNORE championships. Since 1999, additional victories in Trans-Am, World Challenge, the USRRC, Grand American Rolex Series and American Le Mans Series have been added to the tally. In total, White has directed over 100 professional racing series victories from behind the wheel or behind pit wall, seven team championships, two 24 Hours of Le Mans victories, multiple pit crew championships and the team's 2007 debut in The Dakar Rally through his "no excuses/no failures" philosophy. In 2003, White led Petersen/White Lightning to its first GT class victory at Road America and podiums at Sebring (second) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (third). A victory in conjunction with Alex Job Racing at the 24 Heures Du Mans in June rounded-out a stellar year. White managed the team to the 2004 24 Heures Du Mans LM GT class title and third in the ALMS GT title chase. In 2005, Petersen/White Lightning earned the ALMS GT2 Team Championship and IMSA Cup Championship as well as the Driver Championship with pilots Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long. They took five of 10 race victories, nine IMSA Cups, nine podium finishes and two pole positions. Race wins included the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. The team earned second-place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Petersen/White Lightning returned for a fourth full season of ALMS competition in 2006 winning three races (Lime Rock, Road America and Petit Le Mans), three poles and captured a second consecutive GT2 Driver (Bergmeister) and IMSA Cup Championships. They finished second in the Team Championship. White and Petersen returned to off-road competition in January, finishing 23rd overall in their debut at the Euromilhões Dakar 2007 where White is overseeing the team's three-year Dakar program. They had a stage-high finish of eighth in the car category, a remarkable finish for a first-time team in the grueling event. White also spearheaded an off-season switch to the Ferrari F430 GT for their 2007 sports car efforts.
