bio brief
Andrew “Drew” Cushman arrived at Petersen
Motorsports/White Lightning Racing at Mosport in 2004 with no prior motorsports
experience but an extensive background in exotic car maintenance. He immediately
made a mark with his skill and detail-oriented approach to his job increasing
his role in the team substantially in 2005 and 2006. Nicknamed “Bracket
Boy” by the team for his talent at fabricating specialty pieces for the
race car, Cushman is a technical school graduate. He has his Auto-Diesel degree
with certification in HVAC maintenance. He is a certified BMW technician and
has extensive experience working on multiple exotic cars. Since joining Petersen/
White Lightning, Cushman has only missed a podium finish twice in 14 attempts
including victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring in his debut there. Other titles
include the Petit Le Mans and Monterey Sports Car Championships. In all, Cushman
has been a part of five ALMS GT2 victories, the runner-up position at the ‘05
24 Hours of Le Mans and won the ALMS GT2 Team, Driver and IMSA Cup championships
in ’05. At the track, Cushman’s primary task is fabricating needed
pieces for the Porsche. He is also directly responsible for the cosmetics of
the car including needed bodywork and shares tire-changing duties on the pit
wall side of the car with Joey Seely on race day. During the off-season, Cushman
joined lead technician Dennis Chizma as his co-driver winning their class at
the prestigious Laughlin Rally in a Porsche 911.
away from the track
Born in 1978, Cushman lives in Las Vegas working at the
Petersen/White Lightning. When not at the track, the easy-going, hardworking
crewman is an avid golfer. He also enjoys playing many sports including softball,
tennis, basketball and both snow and water skiing. He impressed the team with
his commitment when, following the Championship-winning race at Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca, he had a tattoo of the Petersen/ White Lightning Porsche put onto
his right calf. He is single.
