Brief
2007- Peter Dumbreck joined
Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing just past the mid-point of the 2007
American Le Mans Series season. Dumbreck’s debut with co-driver Dirk Müller
(a native of Germany now living in Monaco) came at the Road America round of
the GT2 championship. The No. 31 Ferrari is his first experience racing the
Italian supercar. Dumbreck continues in his third season as a Toyota “works”/factory
driver in the Super GT Japan series.
2006- Drove to victory at
the prestigious Fuji 500km Super GT Japan Series event for Kraft Bandai GT500.
Raced in several Le Mans Series races for Spyker in the GT2 class finishing
as high as third. Driving for Spyker, made his second career 24 Hours of Le
Mans start. Toyota factory driver.
2005- Finished tenth in
the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Made his first career start in the Super GT
Japan Series as a works driver for Toyota. His best finish would be a fifth
in Super GT despite only racing for half the season. Was signed as Toyota factory
driver.
2004- Raced in his last season of DTM (German Touring
Cars) for Opel in a Vectra GTS V8. Was a Valvoline Racing Driver. 24 Hours of
Nürburgring. Final season as an Opel factory driver.
2003- Earned seventh in
the DTM championship as the highest finishing Opel Astra Coupe V8. Debuted in
the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Opel factory driver.
2002- Ended his long-standing
association with Mercedes driving the factory AMG Mercedes CLK entry in the
DTM series. Mercedes factory driver.
2001- Ran to third in the
DTM championship with two race victories (Sachsenring and Lausitzring) in the
AMG Mercedes CLK factory effort. Mercedes factory driver.
2000- Ended his long-standing
association with Mercedes driving the factory AMG Mercedes CLK entry in the
DTM series. Mercedes factory driver.
1999- Debuted in the 24
Hours of Le Mans driving a Mercedes GTR prototype for the official factory team,
AMG. While a dominating program, the GTR is best known for an aerodynamic instability
issue that caused three to go airborne on the Mulsanne Straight. Dumbreck was
part of one such incident during the race which sent his GTR flipping to twice
its height and landing, right side-up, in the trees off the side of the course.
Dumbreck was uninjured but will forever be linked to the flip. Finished seventh
in the Formula Nippon (Japanese equivalent of F3) championship in his final
season of formula car racing. Mercedes factory driver.
1998- Won the All-Japan
Formula 3 Championship with eight wins in 10 races (a record for victories in
one season) driving for the famous Tom’s Toyota program. Won the world
famous Macau Grand Prix. Competed for half of a season in the Japanese GT Championship,
his first year of racing road-based cars, finishing sixth in the point standings.
1997- Drove his final season
of Formula 3 for Stewart Racing. Finished third in the championship with one
win and six podium finishes. Was running fourth in the Macau Grand Prix when
a mechanical failure dropped him out of the race.
1996- Won the Formula Vauxhall
Championship for Stewart Racing with 10 wins in 14 races, a record number of
victories in one season. Won the Autosport British Club Driver of the Year and
the Scottish Driver of the Year Awards. Was named an Autosport Young Driver
of the Year finalist. .
His start- He completed his first racing school
at fifteen. Forced to wait until 16 to compete, Enge took his first green flag
just hours after coming of age. His first race came in 1992 in the Ford Fiesta
Cup.
1995- Moved into the Formula
Vauxhall Championship finishing fifth as a rookie.
1994- Raced in the highly
competitive Formula Vauxhall Junior Championship setting a record for most victories
(8) on his way to the title. The championship earned him the Scottish Driver
of the Year Award for the first time.
His Start- Dumbreck began
racing karts in his native Fife, Scotland at the age of 11. Drove to his first
automobile championship, the Jim Russell Racing School Series title, in his
debut season of racing cars in 1993.
Outside the Cockpit
Dumbreck spends his rare free time near his home in Oxfordshire
training, golfing and mountain biking. Once a week he gathers with other drivers
and friends to play five-a-side football (soccer). A native of Kirkcaldy on
the East coast of Scotland, he moved to England in 1994 to pursue a career in
racing which has since taken him to live in Japan and Germany. He is married
to Claire and has a young daughter, Laurie.
